The Samsung Galaxy A53 and A33 offer excellent specifications at a reasonable price. So, how do they stack up, and which phone should you go with?. Samsung’s Galaxy A53 5G and Galaxy A33 5G are two of the company’s newest Galaxy A models. These two phones should surely be on your radar if you’re searching for a mid-range phone. But which is the best option for you?

Price

The Galaxy A53 5G costs $449/€449/£399, while the Galaxy A33 5G costs €369/£329; interestingly, Samsung has decided not to launch the latter in the United States, which explains the lack of an official dollar price.

Both phones come with 6GB RAM and 128GB ROM as standard, but if you’re a power user or gamer, you can upgrade to the maxed-out edition with 8GB RAM and 256GB ROM. Both have a microSD card slot.

Dimensions and Construction

The Galaxy A53 measures 159.6 x 74.8 x 8.1 mm and weighs 189 grammes with an IP67 rating.
The Galaxy A53 and the Galaxy A33 are nearly identical in terms of size. On paper, the former is somewhat wider and heavier than the latter; but, in person, it’s difficult to tell the two apart. Both devices have an IP67 water and dust resistant rating.

Camera

Samsung Galaxy A53: 64MP f/1.8 primary camera with PDAF, OIS, and 4K video; 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide camera with 123 degree FOV; 5MP f/2.4 macro; 5MP f/2.4 depth; 32MP f/2.2 front camera with 4K video.

Samsung Galaxy A33: 48MP f/1.8 primary camera with PDAF, OIS, and 4K video; 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide camera with 123 degree FOV; 5MP f/2.4 macro; 2MP f/2.4 depth; 13MP f/2.2 front camera with 1080p video.

The Galaxy A53 and Galaxy A33 have nearly equal camera experiences. Despite the fact that the camera specs varies slightly in terms of megapixels (i.e. image resolution), there are no changes in colour science or image processing.

So, if you’re considering acquiring the A53 in the hopes of having a better camera, you might be better off choosing the A33 instead. Both devices have macro and depth lenses, which are primarily for show; we’d trade them both in for a single telephoto lens.

If you simply care about stats, the display difference between the Galaxy A53 and the Galaxy A33 isn’t that significant. Both smartphones have a Super AMOLED display with the same resolution, peak brightness, protection, and high refresh rate.

But it’s not only about the specs when it comes to the viewing experience; it’s also about the display panel’s design. The A33 has a more traditional teardrop notch and a thicker bottom bezel, which is, of course, done on purpose to make the A53’s hole-punch cutout look better.

Which Should You Purchase?

The Galaxy A53 and Galaxy A33 have more in common than they have differences. The 5nm Exynos 1280 processor, 5000mAh battery, 25W fast wired charging, and IP67 rating are shared by both smartphones. They also support microSD cards, come in a variety of colours, and are almost identical in size.

Unfortunately, neither device has a headphone jack nor does it come with a charger.

If you want to get the most bang for your buck, the Galaxy A33 is the way to go. However, its sluggish refresh rate and drab front design are incompatible with 2022 smartphone requirements. If you’re a gamer, a movie enthusiast, or a content creator, though, the Galaxy A53 is well worth the extra money.
